John M. Schwab
John was born in Pennsylvania in 1952 and currently
resides near Asheville, NC with his wife Anne.  From an
early age he has been fascinated with mechanical and
electrical machines, motion, and the use of the tools
involved in their creation.

Years before he could drive, John's requested birthday
present was a trip to an auto salvage yard.  A lawn mower
engine mounted to a wooden base provided great
entertainment, followed by motor scooter and boat
construction projects.  John's interests have always
centered around working with wood, metal, and electronics.
During high school, John worked nights to buy an arc
welder and taught himself to weld, enabling him to craft a
dune buggy and his first artworks.

Educated in engineering science, aviation technology, and
electronics, John has, at some time, been involved with
various types of technical field work, aviation,
management, professional sales, and a small industrial
salvage company he formed.  While John found satisfaction
in these endeavours, he enjoys the opportunity
to express himself through his creations.

Through these kinetic metal sculpture pieces, John finds personal satisfaction from self-taught creative
processes and in bringing a smile to those viewing his work.  The small copper Little Man in each piece
has special significance to John who has his own ideas of what the Little Man represents, but asks that
you draw your own conclusions.

The works that John has included here demonstrate how he views things a bit differently from the norm,
while providing interesting, original, whimsical artworks...and possibly a look at the Little Man that just
might be inside all of us!
